Electricity in Punjab
The electricity generation company in Punjab is the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). It was set up as a company in the year 2010. The main responsibility is maintenance and operation of Punjab's own electricity generating projects. Various power plants have been set up like Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Power Plant in Ropar, Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant in Bhatinda, Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant in Bhatinda and Shanan Power House. PSPCL is headquartered at Patiali. Electricity is generated in all the power generation plants to meet the electricity consumption of the people in Punjab.

Public Health and Engineering Department
Initially known as Public Health Branch and which was set up in the year 1956, the main function of Punjab Water Supply & Sanitation Department in Punjab are to provide clean and safe drinking water to the residence of Punjab both in the rural and urban areas. The water is cleaned using various chemicals at sewerage treatment plants and then it is distributed to all the houses using pipelines. It also aims at providing sanitation facilities to the rural masses and emphasis is laid on the importance of using sewerage system and individual toilets.
This Public Health and Engineering Department in Punjab has taken the responsibility along with various NGOs that operates in rural areas in creating awareness about various water borne diseases and health hazard that is caused because of lack of sanitation and also due to open defecation.

Punjab Energy Development Agency
Punjab Energy Development Agency abbreviated as PEDA was formed in the year 1991 and registered under Societies Act 1860 as a society. It has been set up for development and promotion of renewable energy projects/programmes and various conservation of energy programmes in Punjab. Some important objective of Punjab Energy Development Agency includes:

1. Promotion and development of various projects such as agro residue/biomass residue based projects, conversion of waste material to energy projects, solar thermal projects, micro/small hydel projects, co-generation of power in paper and sugar industry and so on.

3. Creating awareness among the public to start adopting the Non conventional source of energy and thereby leading to conservation and savings.

PUDA
was established in the year 1995 to bring about a balanced development

Blood
is called as the lifeline of humans. While undergoing operations lot of
blood may be lost and in most of the cases blood externally needs to be
given to the patient of the same blood group. This is when blood banks
are approached. Blood Banks stores blood of almost all the groups and
one can approach them in case of emergency to get the number of units of
blood that is required. There are quite a number of blood banks in Punjab and also most of the hospitals have blood banks of their own.
There are about 28 units for blood storage which have been set up in
those hospitals which are under PHSC and there are 40 blood banks also.

Punjab Police Services
Formed in the year 1861, the main aim of Punjab police is detection as well as prevention of crime and maintenance of law and order and it has been successful in doing so with the dedicated police men of the state. Residents and tourist of the state can approach the police station in case of any help required from them.
Punjab Police has a very glorious history and despite facing many difficult specially during the British reign it made its mark in the Indian history even before independence and continues to do so till now. The state of Punjab is divided into four zones namely Patiala Zone, Border Zone, Bathinda Zone and Jalandhar Zone. There are 24 Police districts presently in Punjab which is headed by SSsp. Apart from this it has five of Commandos battalions, seven battalion of IRB and eight battalions of PAP. The D.G.P is headquartered at the city Chandigarh.
A unique Emergency helpline number 181 which is operational 24*7 has been launched and this number can be used to register complains with regard to matters such as drugs, grievances against police or any crimes. The helpline number is also for woman, locals, senior citizens, and NRIs who might require help at any point of time. The number can also be used for getting any information, help or counseling on the above matters. It has been set up by the government of Punjab keeping in mind the safety of the people.
Punjab police has received many awards like Gallantary Award, Meritorious Award etc and reorganization during its 150 years tenure.
Remarkable Achievements of Punjab Police
1. Punjab police was involved during the migration of huge number of people during separation of India and Pakistan.
2. During the fifties it helped to control dacoit menace.
3. Naxalite violence during the period of sixties/seventies was controlled to a large extent by the Punjab Police.
4. Terrorism has been reduced to a large extent in Punjab with the aid of Punjab Police in which more than 20000 people lost their lives during the period 1981-1994.
5. Apart from the above Punjab Police still continues to provide their excellent service for the safety of the nation and also for the people of the nation.
